Overview
Europian Soldier’s Grave is a war memorial located in the English countryside that honors the stay of Allied soldiers during WWI. The memorial honors the lives of those soldiers who died fighting for their country during the war and is a poignant reminder of the pain and suffering of war.
Prominent Features
The main feature of the memorial is a granite obelisk engraved with the names of the dead soldiers. At the base of the monument are two separate marble plaques which bear the phrases “Lest We Forget” and “Their Name Lives On”. The memorial has a large copper poppies placed around it to symbolize the loss of life during the war.
History
The memorial was originally erected in 1929 in the nearby village of Stock. In 1988, the memorial was moved to its current location in the rural countryside near the village of Natland in Cumbria, England. Since it was established, the memorial has been cared for by local resident volunteers and is visited by people from around the world who visit to pay their respects.
