Brief History:

Dargah Hazrat Syed Hussain Sahib, Kottayam is a famous Dargah located in Kottayam district, Kerala, India. It is believed that this Dargah was built around 550 years ago by Hazrat Syed Hussain Sahib. Hazrat Syed Hussain Sahib was among the first companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who served in the kingdom of Kerala and the malabar coast. He travelled to India, specifically in Kerala to spread the message of peace and love. The Dargah is famous for its spiritual power and tranquility. Every year many devotees from different parts of the country come to this dargah to offer their prayers and seek blessings from Hazrat Syed Hussain Sahib. It is believed that the dargah has the power to heal many ailments and provide relief from distress. Apart from the spiritual power of the Dargah, its architectural splendour and the sheer magnitude of the tomb attracts thousands of devotees from far and wide. The tomb is adorned with intricate carvings and is said to have been built in the Mughal architecture style of the 13 - 16th century. Every year during the Urs (anniversary) of Hazrat Syed Hussain Sahib, a huge mela or festival is held at Dargah and people from all parts of scripture come to offer their prayers and seek blessings. Architecture:

The architecture of Dargah Hazrat Syed Hussain Sahib is unique and remarkable. The main gate of the dargah is made of red stones and decorated in an intricate architectural design. It leads to the two-storied main building called Hazrat ki Masjid. This building is intricately carved with intricate floral and geometrical designs, and has several small cells around its perimeter. It has a large central dome that is intricately decorated with fine white marble and intricate stone carvings. The main shrine inside the complex is dedicated to Hazrat Syed Hussain Sahib and his son Syed Qamarul Din. It consists of a single sanctum which is built in an octagonal shape and is further adorned with exquisite carvings. The whole interiors are also decorated with Oriental tiles, and beautiful wall paintings depicting Islamic themes. The complex also includes several small shops, restaurants, mosques, and libraries that display collections of Islamic literature. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
