mukha Temple: Chaturmukha Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in Belgaum, Karnataka, India. It is dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva, who is also known as Chatur Mukha, meaning four-faced. The temple was built by the Chalukyas, a powerful dynasty that ruled over northern Karnataka during the 10th century. The temple is particularly significant because it is one of the few remaining examples in India of the Chalukyan architecture. History:
The temple is a classic example of the masterful architectural style of the Chalukyan dynasty. Its main entrance is crafted in a distinctive symmetrical star-shaped design and is adorned with ornate carvings of deities and devotional scenes. The temple’s most striking feature is its four faces, each facing a different direction in the four directions of the compass. The faces are alternately placed deep within the walls, creating a unique structure that resembles an octagon. The temple structure is supported by twelve pillars, creating a perfect square base.
