The Burial Cave of Kattakampal is a megalithic burial chamber located in the small village of Kattakampal, Tamil Nadu, South India. The cave is believed to be over 2000-3000 years old and is of immense archaeological importance. The cave is made from massive granite rocks that were cut and laid out to form a circular chamber. This unique archaeological site is an example of the way megaliths were constructed by ancient civilisations. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Burial Cave of Kattakampal is a megalithic chamber made out of large, cut granite blocks. The entrance to the chamber is circular in shape and is enclosed within two walls. The inside of the chamber is domed, with a two-level construction of granite slabs covering the interior. The inner walls are covered with carvings and images of animals and symbols, as well as many symbols and signs that are unknown.
