History:
alongwith saru-maru monastric complex Overview: The Saru-Maru Monastric Complex is a site composed of two Buddhist stupas (Zoubuin and Kusuen) along with a Buddhist shrine built in 701 during the Nara period in Japan. The complex is located near the modern-day city of Ogata in Akita Prefecture, Japan. Prominent Features : The two main stupas of the Saru-Maru Monastric Complex are the Zoubuin and Kusuen. The former is believed to have been built by a monk named Suchiku in 601, while the latter was built by priest Suten-bo in 686. Both stupas stand about 3 meters tall and share similar architectural elements. The shrine, known as the Shiruyama Shrine, is believed to have been built around 701 and contains statues of Amida Buddha, the Kannon Bodhisattva, and eight Quan Yin statues.
