The ancient mound at Mahagara is one of the few archaeological sites in India which have been excavated over the past decades. The mound is located in the village of Mahagara, which is situated in the district of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is believed to be the site of a large city that existed in the 3rd century BCE. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most prominent feature of the ancient mound at Mahagara is the remains of a large fortification wall, which was built in the 3rd century BCE. The fortification wall was made up of mud bricks and sealed with plaster. It enclosed an area of about 45 hectares and was about 1.5 meters thick.
