The Achyutaraya (Triuvengalantha) temple, located in the ancient and beautiful Hampi town of Karnataka, is the oldest and biggest temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the town. Built in 1534, the temple is famous for its many exquisite stone carvings, sprawling ornate plinths, and pillars that have intricate carvings from Hindu gods, goddesses, and various Hindu stories and beliefs. History:

The Achyutaraya (Triuvengalantha) temple has a large sprawling outer pavilion that has an array of 33 cells, each depicting one of the forms of Lord Vishnu. The walls of each cell have been intricately carved with carvings of Hindu gods and goddesses. The inner sanctum of the temple houses the massive idol of Lord Vishnu with four hands in a robed form. Other significant features include two huge dvajastambas (pillar shrines) at the entrance, ornately carved mantapas, grand halls, and a two-component inner sanctum, each part of which is surrounded by two walls and chambers. The Achyutaraya (Triuvengalantha) temple was built in 1534 AD by the Hindu ruler Deva Raya II of the Vijayanagara Empire to commemorate his victory over the Gajapatis of Orissa. The temple was originally called ‘Achyutarya’ or ‘Triuvengalantha’, which means ‘Krishna’ or ‘Lord Vishnu’ in Telugu. Later on, it was renamed as Achyutaraya.
