Worship Method:
Modhera Sun Temple, located in the village of Modhera in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, is an ancient temple built in dedication to the sun god Surya. The entire temple complex consists of three main components, the main shrine, a stepped tank called Surya Kund, and a large assemblage of halls and pavilions called gudhamandapa. Worship at the temple is performed in two distinct ways. The first method of worship follows the Vedic Yajna ritual involving the invocation of the sun god through prayers accompanied by chanting of mantras with accompaniment of musical instruments. This is followed by the offering of various herbs, flowers, fruits, and grains in a sacrificial fire. This fire is called havankunda and it symbolizes the divine fire of the sun god that incinerates all impurities. The second method of worship is practiced in the form of daily prayer practices. This includes singing devotional songs, offering flowers and incense sticks, and reciting sacred mantras. On auspicious days, such as the solar and lunar eclipses, special worship is carried out in the form of elaborate rituals. This most visited temple in Gujarat
