St. Paul's Church is a historic Anglican church located in London, England. It is the largest and most famous church of the Church of England, and has served as a symbol of Christian faith in the city since 1666. The current building was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and built between 1675 and 1710. St. Paul's Church History A church has stood on the same site since AD 604, when a small Saxon church was built there. That church evolved over time, but the last major alteration was during the reign of Henry VIII. In 1561 St. Paul's replaced the Royal Chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula at the Tower of London as the principal place of Anglican worship. In 1666, the Great Fire of London destroyed the old building. The new St. Paul's was built under the direction of Sir Christopher Wren and remains largely unchanged since it was completed in 1711.
