The Society of Friends (Quakers) have a long history in Fiji, dating back to 1837. The first Friends (Quakers) missionaries were sent to Fiji and established the first settlement in the town of Levuka. By 1853, there were twenty-two Friends families living in Fiji, and in 1868 the ownership of the Levuka settlement was transferred to the Society of Friends (Quakers). Since then, the Society has been active in Fiji by providing education, health, and welfare services. The Friends (Quakers) have also been instrumental in helping to develop the culture and economy in Fiji. Today, the Friends (Quakers) continue to provide religious and relief services in Fiji, including programs focused on education, health care, poverty alleviation, and economic development.
