Loksa kirik (Loksa Church) is a medieval church located near the town of Loksa, in Northeastern Estonia. The parish of Loksa belongs to the diocese of Tallinn. It is the only Gothic church still standing in the area, and a popular tourist attraction. It is one of the best churches in Estonia which you must visit.

History:

Loksa kirik was built in the early 14th century and served as a centre for parish activities until the Reformation. During the 16th century, it was extensively renovated with the addition of a new belltower and windows. The church was later used as a garrison during the Great Northern War, before being abandoned in the 19th century. It was renovated again in the early 20th century when it was given its current appearance. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Estonia.

Loksa kirik is built in the Gothic style with a cruciform plan. Its walls are made of unworked limestone, while the inner and outer facades are decorated with keystone windows and pilasters.
