Leonida In Estonia: History,Facts, & Services
,Leonida was an Estonian family of nobles active in the 15th century. Its members held prominent offices at local and state level, including mayor of Tallinn (Reval). Leonida's members were descendants of the Middle-Estonian lineage of Odenpere. Its estates and serfs were mainly located in the modern-days Estonia, Harju County and Virumaa, being the only independent family of nobles in Estonia throughout the 15th century. Its members also served at courts of various princes of Livonia, Novgorod Republic, and Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
The most prominent among Leonida's members was Henricus de Leonida, mayor of Tallinn 1382–1385. By donations to the Holy Spirit Church and to Sankt Peter's Church, he earned a place in Estonian history. Leonida's members were also important members of the Livonian Order, a German military order active in medieval Estonia and Latvia.
