EELK Lasnamäe Püha Markuse kogudus (EELK Church of St. Mark at Lasnamäe) is a parish of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church (EELK) located in Lasnamäe, Harju County, Estonia. The parish was founded in 1977 and is now a fascinating example of a vibrant and growing faith-based community in a diverse and ever-changing inner city suburb.
History
The parish was originally established in 1977 as a religious outpost to assist people in the Lasnamäe area. Initially, the church operated out of a gathering spot in the basement of a Lasnamäe apartment block. As the parish grew, it was soon necessary to ferret out a more suitable venue. By 1981 the parish had relocated to a modern church building on Keondre Street and an adjacent church platform.
Facts
The parish is led by Pastor Vello Puolak, a former pastor of the Estonian speaking congregation of the EELK from the Finnish Exarchate. As of 2020, the parish had roughly 700 members, with services in both Estonian and Russian. It is home to a growing list of vibrant ministries and community church groups, available to anyone interested.
Services
The parish provides a host of services and activities. Services are held twice on Sundays and once on Wednesdays. The services are catered towards both children and adults, and services are provided in both Estonian and Russian. The church also hosts various festivals surrounding their patron saint St. Mark, as well as other religious holidays. The parish also runs a variety of fellowship and community programs, including educational programs, youth outreach, and numerous charitable works.
