History The Eritrean Kale Hiwot Church in Eritrea (EKHC) was established in 1967, largely through the efforts of the Evangelical Church of Eritrea (ECE), which had been formed by returning Eritrean refugees from Ethiopia in 1965. The EKHC was formed after the ECE established its headquarters in Asmara. Although the EKHC is located in Eritrea, it is a distinct church in its own right and is not part of the ECE. Facts - It is the largest evangelical church in Eritrea and is one of the most influential churches in the country. - The EKHC has over 400 congregations across the country and its membership is estimated to be between 80,000-100,000 people. - It is focused primarily on evangelism and community development projects, as well as providing basic health, education and social services for its members. Services - The EKHC provides a range of spiritual and community-based services, including Sunday school, Bible studies, devotionals, prayer meetings and retreats. - It also runs medical centers and provides medical services, often with the help of volunteer doctors from abroad. - Additionally, the EKHC provides support for young people, such as scholarships and training programs, as well as education for adults. Finally, the EKHC is involved in development and relief projects, such as providing clean water and sanitation, and distributing food and clothing.
