Kidane Mihret In Eritrea: History,Facts, & Services

Kidane Mihret In Eritrea is one of Eritrea's oldest monasteries, founded in the late 15th century by a hermit from Ethiopia. The Monastery is located in Adi-Galano, approximately 10km north of the capital Asmara, in the northern eastern part of the country. It is a place of pilgrimage for many Eritreans, owing to its long and complex history. A number of saints are known to have lived here, as well as notable figures such as Emperor Haile Selassie, the late King of Ethiopia. Kidane Mihret is renowned for its architecture and stunning natural environment, and regularly attracts many visitors looking to experience the rich culture and tradition of the Orthodox Church. The main activities on offer include the celebration of Easter, and other major feasts of the Church; the study of scripture, history and tradition; the application and practice of theology and spiritual discipline; and the administration of various charitable projects and services.
