St Theodore's Church was founded by Father James Carlisle in 1833. It was the first Catholic parish in western Pennsylvania and served the region’s German-speaking Catholic immigrants. Despite considerable opposition from Protestant groups, Father Carlisle worked hard to establish and maintain the parish, performing his own baptisms and administering the sacraments until his death in 1845. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.
