History:
Saint Catherine's Church was founded in 1240 by Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise, who chose the site in honor of his wife, Catherine, who had recently died. It was built on the former site of a pagan temple. The main structure of the church was completed in 1245 and the murals and apses were completed in the 13th century. The north and west wings were added in the 14th century. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.

Saint Catherine's Church survived physically unscathed through numerous wars, but much of the interior artwork and other features were destroyed during the Soviet regime. In the immediate post-Sovictoc period cleanup and restoration efforts began, led by the Pechersk Monastery. Today, visitors to the church can experience a variety of architectural styles, representing various stages of the church's evolution.
