St Andrew's Church, Handsworth is a Church of England church located in the suburbs of Handsworth, Birmingham, UK. Dating back to 1867, St Andrew's is one of the oldest churches in the area and has been the central focus of worship since its opening. History St Andrew's Church was built in 1867 and has been an important part of the Handsworth community ever since. It originally served as a mission church to St Mary's Church, Birmingham and was intended to cater for the growing population in the area. In fact, it was the first church in the region to be designed for Anglican worship and it has maintained its presence ever since. The Church became an independent parish in 1905 and in 1908 the Church Hall was completed, providing useful facilities for the area for many years. The Church building itself underwent extensive renovations in the 1960s and is largely unchanged from its original design. Facts - St Andrew's Church, Handsworth is classified as grade II listed and is of historical significance. - The original architect, William Butterfield, also designed the original chapel of Keble College, Oxford. - The Church was the first Church in the area to be designed for Anglican worship and still serves this purpose to this day. Services The Church is a regular and vibrant place of worship offering a range of services each week. These include a traditional evening service each Sunday which includes choral music and sung worship. The Church also hold regular midweek services and has special ‘family services’ each Sunday which are particularly front family-friendly.
