St. George's Cathedral was initially a wooden structure built by British settlers in 1841 and was later replaced with a brick building in 1862 – the same year construction of the cathedral itself started. The Gothic-style cathedral was designed by an English architect, JG Browne and was completed in 1901. It features an elaborate stone façade and the largest spire in the Southern hemisphere.
