Church of St Simon and St Jude, Castlethorpe In England: History,Facts, & Services
History:
The church was designed by Edward Buckton Lamb and built by J.T. Delamotte & Son of Northampton. A contemporary account described the new building, stating that it was “a neat edifice in the early Decorated style”. The foundation stone was laid in 1868 and the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Lincoln, George Andrew Chadwick, on 2 September 1869. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.

The church is built of Northamptonshire ironstone, with ashlar dressings, on a rough ashlar plinth. The roof is slated and of simple form, and there is a bell cote with a bell by Mears & Stainbank. The plan of the church consists of a four-bay nave with a south porch and a chancel with vestry to the north. The interior is plain, with whitewashed walls and a simple cornice and cove.
Services:
Services are held in Church of St Simon and St Jude on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 11.00am. Morning Prayer is held on Wednesdays at 8.30am and there is also a monthly Sunday Evening Service. There's a Junior Church every week, except during school holidays. This beautiful church in England has made a lot of significance in the past.
