Saint Laurence Church (Kerteminde) is a Romanesque church located in the town of Kerteminde, in the northern part of Denmark's Funen Island. It was built in the late 11th century/early 12th century and is the only surviving Romanesque church of the region. It is one of the best churches in Denmark which you must visit.

History:

Prior to the construction of Saint Laurence Church (Kerteminde), the area had a wooden church which was erected sometime in the 10th century and was destroyed by fire. In 1188, King Valdemar I was granted permission from the bishop of Odense to construct a new stone church in the area, and so the Saint Laurence Church (Kerteminde) was built shortly afterwards. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Denmark.

Saint Laurence Church (Kerteminde) is of Romanesque origin and is built in the basilica style, making it a unique example of Danish Christian architecture. The walls are thick and made of stones, while the interior is composed of round arches and pillars.
