Langelinie Park (Langelinieparken) is a public park located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Located on the eastern part of the Copenhagen Harbour, it opened in 1889 and is one of the city’s oldest and most historic parks. Initially known as ‘The Berth of King Frederick V’, it was developed in the late 19th century as a popular promenade for the citizens of Copenhagen. Langelinie Park was first suggested in 1856 by Christian VIII, who wanted to create a harbor promenade to show off the Royal Navy battle ships in the harbor. The first sections of the park opened in 1889 and were mainly used to house the ‘The Little Mermaid’ statue, which was the gift to the city of Copenhagen from Carl Jacobsen and was unveiled in 1913. As the park developed further, it was opened up to the public, who used the area to walk and relax.
