History:

Vor Frue Kirke in Copenhagen, Denmark, was originally built as a Roman basilica in the 13th century during the reign of King Eric IV. Originally called "St. Catherine's Church", it was dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of Copenhagen. The church was later rebuilt in the Neo-Baroque style in the late 17th century, when it was renamed Vor Frue Kirke (Church of Our Lady). In 1895, a fire destroyed the original church and it was rebuilt in 1897-1902 in the Neo-Romanesque style. This new church was consecrated in 1902 and remains the current Vor Frue Kirke. Many of the original interior and exterior features of the older church were kept in the rebuild, including several works of art from the old church. Vor Frue Kirke is now one of the largest churches in Copenhagen, renowned for its Baroque pipe organs and altars, as well as for its famous funerary chapels. The church is renowned for its role in the establishment of the Church of Denmark and was used for the coronation of Christian IX in 1863.
