History:

is known as the oldest temple of the state of Kerala, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vamana, the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to the legend, this temple is believed to be constructed by the powerful ruler of Kerala, Perumal. The famous Onam festival is celebrated here every year to commemorate the annual visit of Lord Mahabali. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Vamana, which is worshipped in its four-armed form. The Vamana Murthy is believed to have been made by a great master sculptor, Vijayan. Apart from Lord Vamana, other deities worshipped in the temple are Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Lord Guruvayurappan, Lord Murugan, Lord Ayyappa and Goddess Durga. A carnival of parades and ethnic folk dances is conducted during Onam festival in the temple premises. The temple is opened every day for worship and offering from 4am to 11am and 5pm to 8pm. The mandatory offerings are Namaskara, Kumkuma and Thulabharam. The temple is also a part of the 'Aadoor Thava Festival' where a host of processions are taken out in different parts of the city in a grand procession. Children are taken in decorated bullock carts and priests chant mantras and decorate the carts with ornate mango leaves.
