The Cyprus Wine Museum in Erimi, Limassol, is part of the Limassol Municipal Arts Centre and is dedicated to the wine-making history of the island. It was officially opened in April 2002 and is based in an old wine-pressing building, known as a lakkantiki. This building, which dates back to the 19th century, is a large stone structure with two wooden press units that were used to store and press grapes for wine-making. The museum houses exhibits which display the development of winemaking in Cyprus over the centuries, ranging from the Phoenician era to the present day. The collection includes barrels, ancient winemaking tools, vintage wines bottles, artifacts, photographs and documents. In addition to the exhibits, visitors to the museum can take part in guided tours and taste the wines from the museum’s collection. The museum also features a sculpture garden and a traditional vineyard terrace. Events are also held at the museum such as wine-tasting, lectures and workshops.
