History:

Lapithos is an ancient town located in the northern area of the Kerynia District in Cyprus. The town dates back to at least the 8th century BCE when it was part of the kingdom of Alashiya, also known as Alasiya or Alasha. This ancient kingdom was located in the eastern Mediterranean, stretching from Cilicia to the island of Cyprus. It is thought that the town was established sometime around 1350 BCE when the kingdom was at its peak. The town continued to be a major power for many centuries. In the 4th century BCE, it was conquered by the Persians and then by the Ptolemies. During the Hellenistic period, Lapithos enjoyed a period of economic growth and prosperity, with the town becoming an important trading port.
