The church was founded in 1985 by Fr. Alexander Mantheakis who dedicated the church to the saintly prototype of God, St. John the Baptist. Fr. Alex chose to establish the church for the purpose of bringing Greek Orthodoxy to the severely under-served community of Huntington. The parish hosted the first Divine Liturgy on May 9, 1984.
