The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin is a Russian Orthodox church located in the city of Vladimir in the Vladimir Oblast region of Russia. It is old church which was built in 1158 by Grand Duke Andrey Bogolyubsky in the 12th century. The Church is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historical Monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal. The 3-aisled domed construction of the church is made of white limestone and has four columns on each side. The church was dedicated to the Holy Virgin, who is said to be the intercession of the suffering. It is said that the Grand Duke built the Church in gratitude to the Virgin Mary for helping him win a battle against the forces of Kiev in 1162. The Church was built on a small hill overlooking the City of Vladimir and became a major religious and cultural center for the emerging Russian Orthodox Church. The Church was restored many times throughout its history and it received its modern form in the 18th century.
