Church of the Assumption is a Roman Catholic church in New York City, located in the Midtown West area. Established in 1859, it is the oldest parish church in the Archdiocese of New York. It is known for its Gothic Revival architecture and its beautiful stained-glass windows.

Church of the Assumption was founded in 1859. The first pastor of the parish was Reverend John S. Lynch, who served for only a few months before he died. He was replaced by Father Joseph O’Brien two years later. During the 19th century, the parish was mostly Irish Catholic immigrants and was affiliated with St. Patrick’s Cathedral in lower Manhattan.
