History:

The Church of St. Donatus is believed to have been built at the turn of the 9th century, during the reign of the Croatian ruler, Duke Zdeslav, in the year 804. At the time, the Romanesque style of architecture was just beginning to become popular in the area. Through its long history, the church has been modified various times, even being destroyed during the Ottoman invasion in 16th century. After the restoration of Croatian independence in 1991, the church underwent major renovations including the installation of a new tiled roof, and the interior being re-decorated with modern works of art. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Croatia.
