The Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows is a Roman Catholic parish church and Marian shrine in the city center of Brussels, Belgium. It is located at the end of the Rue de Flandre. The church was built between 1691 and 1703 and was strongly influenced by the High Baroque style. The church’s patroness is the Blessed Virgin Mary, under her title of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows.
The patronal feast day is celebrated on the Friday following the third Sunday of September.

History:
The origin of the Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows dates back to the early 17th century. In 1608 Cardinal François de Joyeuse, grand almoner of Philip III of Spain, founded six churches in Brussels, one of which was dedicated to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows. The original church was pulled down in 1641 to make way for the adjacent Maison des Pères Carmes, but a new one was built in 1691. The project was undertaken by Polish Jesuit friar, John Jan Castoro, whose efforts were supported by Philip V of Spain. The church was solemnly inaugurated in 1703, in the presence of Philip V as well as ministers and generals of the Spanish armies. Since its dedication, the church has been an important center of Marian devotion in Brussels. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Croatia.

The Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows is built in the High Baroque style of the 17th century. Its architecture is characterized by its undulating lines, curved shapes, and scrolled decoration. The church consists of a central body, two aisles, and two bulbous domes set directly atop a protruding porch. The interior is opulent, with marble floors and walls, painting, gilding, and stucco decorations. The high altar houses an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, under her title of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, surrounded by sculpted angels. The altar was made by the renowned Baroque sculptor François Duquesnoy the Elder.
