History:

The monastery was founded by the Order of St. Benedict, following the Church of St. Maria in Hermoupolis as the third Benedictine monastery in the region. The monastery was initially established in the small village of Stari Bar, following the fall of the Bosnian Kingdom in 1463. However, it was destroyed in the early 16th century and later re-established in Mostar in 1515. Its location has remained the same ever since.
