Overview:

La Amistad International Park - Limon In Costa-Rica is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was created in 1982. History:

La Amistad International Park (Parque Internacional La Amistad), or PILA, is located on the border between Costa Rica and Panama in Central America. The mountain ranges of Talamanca Cordillera and the International ‘Friendship’ Peak divide the two countries. The park covers a total area of 1,790,022 hectares and was established in 1988 when two Decrees were approved by the government of Costa Rica and Panama. The area is split between Costa Rica and Panama, with 25% of the park belonging to the former and 75% to the latter. The primary objective of the park is to promote and protect the innumerable species of flora and fauna living in the region, many of which are on the verge of extinction. The unique climate and terrain, combined with its high biodiversity, make the park of global importance. This protected area is home to many species of birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles unique to the region.
