History:

Whistler Blackcomb is a ski resort located in the Garibaldi Provincial Park of British Columbia, Canada. With 24 lifts, over two mountains, and over 200 runs, the resort is one of the largest in North America. Whistler Blackcomb was first developed in 1966, by an engineering firm hired by the Garibaldi-Lillooet Regional District. The resort’s primary chair lifts were developed in two phases, including the Garbanzo Chair on Whistler Mountain in 1967 and the T-Bar on Blackcomb Mountain in 1975. In the mid-1980s, real estate developer Intrawest purchased much of the land surrounding both mountains. In 1996, Whistler Blackcomb was officially mounted as a ski resort, and two new chairlifts, the PEAK and Glacier Express chairlifts, changed the face of skiing and snowboarding at Whistler Blackcomb. In 2010, Whistler Blackcomb was sold to two of Canada’s largest private equity firms, and the Sky Tram and Peak2Peak Gondola opened in December of that year, connecting both mountains for the first time. In August 2016, Whistler Blackcomb was purchased by Vail Resorts, becoming the first Canadian resort to join the Company’s portfolio of owned properties. The acquisition allowed the resort to take advantage of Vail’s investment and operational expertise, and it implemented the Epic Pass program in the 2018 - 2019 season, permitting pass holders to receive access to all Vail properties throughout the USA, Canada, and Australia. Today, Whistler Blackcomb is a world-famous destination, bringing in hundreds of thousands of travelers each year to enjoy its winter wonderland of skiing and snowboarding. The resort has even hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics, elevating it to a premier winter destination. You must visit one of these historical places in Canada on your Canada tour
