History:

The Scenic Caves Nature Adventures are located near Collingwood, Ontario in Canada and is a popular destination for tourists as well as residents of the area. The site has a long and rich history. The first record of humans in the area dates back around 1790 when the Huron people settled in an area they called Nookomis. It is believed that they used the caves as a refuge during the cold winter months. In the late 1800s the caves were rediscovered and became a popular tourist attraction for people from around the world. In 1906 they were given the name “Scenic Caves” by Elizabeth Plewman. In 1948, E. Plewman opened the site to the public as a picnic area and tourist attraction. The following year he offered guided tours of the caves for visitors. In 1982, Scenic Caves became an official nature reserve and the first nature reserve in the Blue Mountains. Since then it has continued to offer visitors and residents alike unique outdoor experiences. Today, the Scenic Caves are a popular destination for hikers and sightseers.
