History:

Kgale Siding Station in Botswana was established in 1954 as part of the Belizean railway system, created with the hope of connecting Botswana with its neighbour, South Africa. The original plan was to connect Lobatse in Botswana to Bethlehem in South Africa, however due to political conflicts this never happened. The station, although relatively small, had significant ties with centralized towns such as Lobatse, Gaborone and Mafikeng due to its link with the railway system. In the mid-1960s, the railway system was stopped due to the war in South Africa and Rhodesia, thus making the station obsolete. The station was later used for freight services and as a depot for goods destined for Lobatse. In the late 1980s, the Botswana Government developed a plan to revive the railway system in the country. As part of the plan, Kgale Siding Station was chosen to be the hub of activity. Today, the station has been given a facelift. The station is now used as a transportation center for freight and passenger services in and around Gaborone. In addition, the station also serves as a transportation hub for tourists. It is also used as a storage and transfer facility for goods in transit. You must visit one of these historical places in Botswana on your Botswana tour
