History:
The city of San Salvador de Jujuy in Bolivia was first colonized by a Spaniard named Don Diego Lopez de Salazar in 1593. He founded the city of Jujuy. Located in the Moxos region, it rapidly grew in influence and importance. In 1763, the city was taken over by the Royalists and declared San Salvador de Jujuy, and officially made the capital of the Province of Jujuy. The city served as the political center of the region and was the site of several battles during the Spanish South American Wars of Independence. During the 19th century, the city developed further and in 1887, was declared a department capital. It was a hub for the surrounding rural areas, but by the 20th century, it had become much more of an industrial center. Today, San Salvador de Jujuy is a vibrant city, with a mix of old and modern buildings. It is known for its churches and for the nightlife and the numerous festivals held throughout the year.
