History:

is a temple located in Paro Dzongkhag in Bhutan. It was built in the 14th century by Gyalse Pema Thinley, a great grand-son of the great master Shantarakshita and was a part of Paro Dzong. The temple is the main guardian deity of Paro. It is located on a high rooftop overlooking Paro Valley. The temple covers an area of 180 sq. meters and comprises 300 images of gods, goddesses and guardians said to represent the lineage of Shakyamuni Buddha and numerous manifestations of Guru Rinpoche. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche had made a fire offering and blessed the valley and the temple at this site after emerging from a cave located in front of the temple. The temple is famous for the annual Tshechu festival held here. People from all over the country visit to participate in this festival. It is also a centre of pilgrimage for the devout Buddhists visiting Paro region. The temple houses various statues, scrolls, paintings, relics, scriptures, masks and other artefacts.
