Worship Method:

The main form of worship at Tharpaling Monastery is known as Nyungne, which involves chanting the prayers of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and prostrating in front of the temple for two days. On the first day of worship, the adherents bathe before the monastery and chant the prayers over the course of the day amidst singing, monastic dances, and occasional musical interludes. On the second day, participants begin the round of prostration with a short worship session before recommencing the chanting and prostrating. The practice of Nyungne is thought to provide spiritual, mental, and physical benefits to its practitioners. The worship also includes torma offer ings (cakes made from roasted grains, butter, and honey that are offered to deities) and food offerings as well as annual ceremonies and festivals dedicated to the particular Guru of the monastery.
