History:

Dochula Pass is located in the Himalayan mountain range in the Punakha district of Bhutan. It was constructed in 2003 as a strategic pass by Bhutan's fourth Druk Gyalpo, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck to commemorate the victory of the Bhutanese soldiers against Indian Assam Rifles regiment in the 2003 battle of Dagana. The pass is located at an elevation of 3,150 meters (10,330 feet) and provides picturesque views of the Eastern Himalayas. On the pass stands the Druk Wangyel Chorten, established in 2004 by Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, Queen Grandmother of Bhutan. The pass is on an alternate route between Thimphu and Punakha.
