The La Inmaculada Roman Catholic Church in Belize was built in 1731 in Belize City. It is the oldest Catholic Church in the Western Hemisphere that has been in continuous use. The original wooden building was destroyed by a hurricane in 1831, but the local parishioners did not give up; the new, stone church was completed in 1834. It is the only church that is still standing of the four original churches built in Belize. Inside, the church features beautiful frescoes, stained-glass windows and ornate wood carvings.
