Immaculate Conception Catholic Church In Belize is a Roman Catholic church located in the city of Belmopan, Belize. The church was built in the late 18th century and is one of the oldest churches in the country. The church is known to be the birthplace of the Catholic Church in Belize, and as such, is a major center for the Catholic faith in the country. The church is home to two major parishes, one located in the city of Belmopan and the second in the small town of Maskall, Belize. History Immaculate Conception Catholic Church was built in Belmopan in 1774, and was the first Catholic Church in Belize. The Church was initially built to replace the small Catholic Church of Santa Rosa de Lima that had been destroyed by a hurricane in 1769. In 1774, the Church was officially declared a Roman Catholic Parish and was given the name of the Immaculate Conception. The Church was renovated in the 19th century and new additions were added to the Church, including a bell tower.
