History:

St. Anne's Church in Vitebsk, Belarus, is one of the oldest surviving churches in all of Belarus. The church is believed to have been built in the early 13th century, with structure of the main building having been preserved to the present day. The church is also associated with some of the earliest known documents mentioning Vitebsk, making a visit to the church an important place for exploring Belarus' past. The interior of the church was restored multiple times throughout its history, with the most prominent renovation having occurred in the late 17th century. At this time, the church was decorated with numerous Baroque-style sculptures, and its original iconography was replaced with new Catholic imagery. In the 19th century, the church was renovated again, in an effort to preserve its Baroque style architecture. During this period, the church was also decorated with neo-classical and Romantic-style paintings, and altars were added to the interior. In the late 20th century, however, the church underwent a full restoration.
