Khram Kirilla I Mefodiya In Belarus: History,Facts, & Services

? Khram Kirilla I Mefodiya is a Russian Orthodox Christian church located in Moscow, Russia. It is one of the most impressive churches in the Russian capital and is named after St. Cyril of Belozersk. According to tradition, the window frames of the church were decorated with the bones of two saints: St. Kirill and St. Mefodiy. The church was built in 1564-1586 on the grounds of a monastery that had existed since the 14th century. History- The original structure of the church was commissioned by Tsar Ivan the Terrible, and it replaced a medieval wooden building. In 1812, the French Army looted the church and set it on fire. In 1813, Alexander I restored the church to its original form. Facts- • The church is the only fully preserved monumental ornamental structure from the 16th century. • Its dome droops at an angle of 6° which is typical of Orthodox churches. • It is believed that the bones of Saints Kirill and Mefodiy lie beneath the beautiful windows of the temples. • The church stands in the middle of a square surrounded by four smaller towers. Services- The church offers regular weekly services, including the daily Divine Liturgy. It also holds other religious services and liturgies, such as baptisms, weddings and memorials. Additionally, it serves as a venue for concerts, meetings and other cultural events.
