Braslaw Lakes National Park, located in Braslaw region of Belarus, is a protected nature area established in 1996 to protect the unique natural landscapes, wildlife, and flora of the area and conserve the valuable cultural heritage. The park encompasses about 1150 square kilometers of diverse landscape featuring numerous picturesque lakes, bogs, meadows, floodplains, and a variety of forests. The area also contains several archeological sites of great historic significance, most notably the burial mound of legendary Grand Duke Vseslav the Sorcerer. The park is home to a variety of animal species including elk, wild boar, beavers, wolves, lynx, badgers, otters, and foxes. The park is an important stopover point for migrating birds. History:

Braslaw Lakes National Park is located in Braslaw, Belarus. It was created by decree of the Belarusian president in 1995 in order to protect and preserve the unique natural landscape of the Braslaw area. The park covers over 1,000 square km and includes more than a hundred lakes and numerous swamps, forests, and tundra. Due to the numerous complex micro-climates and the variety of flora and fauna, it is sometimes referred to as “a real pearl of Belarus”. The park is a protected area and was declared a Ramsar Site in 2005 by the United Nations International Convention on Wetlands. It is home to a variety of endangered and rare species of animals and plants, including Flora and Fauna listed in the Red Book of Belarus. In 2007, the park was officially designated a stop off point for migratory birds under the EU's Natura 2000 network of protected areas. The park is also known for its archaeological sites. Many megalithic burial mounds and sacred places with ancient ritual objects of the ancient Baltic peoples can be found here. In addition, the remains of an ancient castle dating back to the 12th century are located within the park boundaries.
