The Church Of the Resurrection In Barbados: History,Facts, & Services
The Church Of the Resurrection is an Anglican parish church in the capital of Barbados, Bridgetown. Built in the late 18th century, it is said to be one of the oldest churches in the Caribbean and is the oldest adobe brick church on the island. The first church service is believed to have been held as early as 1642 but was then a wooden building which burned down in 1791. The current building was completed in 1794 and has remained in use ever since. The church began as a chapel-of-ease for worshipers living near the Garrison, as well as the general public.
The Church Of the Resurrection is home to several important events and ceremonies each year, such as the official opening of the Barbados Parliament, the annual Barbados Independence Day parade, and the Barbadian Anglican Church’s synod meetings.
The church is open to the public for worship and tourists are welcome to visit. The Church offers a range of services, including worship services every Sunday and a variety of events and activities throughout the week, such as bible study, prayer meetings, praise and worship, and more.
