St. James Penticostal Church was founded in 1921, when Bishop John M. Thomas arrived from Trinidad to Barbados to start a Pentecostal church. The church grew and eventually split into two branches - St. Barnabas and St. James Pentecostal Church. St. Barnabas was later incorporated into the Seventh-Day Adventist denomination.
