St. Bartholomew's Church In Barbados: History,Facts, & Services
St. Bartholomew’s Church in Barbados is the oldest surviving Protestant Church in the Caribbean. It was originally constructed in 1628 and serves parishioners to this day. It is distinctive for its English-style construction and its modern Baroque design. It consists of a bell tower, balcony, main nave, and a sacristy.

History:
The initial construction was ordered by William Haynes and paid for by Francis Frere, with the aid of St. Christopher’s Company. Major renovations were added in 1645, and the building and adornment of the church were completed by 1649. St. Bartholomew’s was one of five churches constructed by the English to replace churches of the Dutch that had previously served the islanders. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Barbados.

The church’s interior consists of beautiful chandeliers, stained-glass windows, and a brass lectern. The bell tower holds a “ring” of six bells. Tower stairs are set off to one side of the half-barrel-vaulted ceiling. The ceiling is white and includes rose windows with imagery of religious significance.
