River Road is a Pentecostal church located in St. Philip, Barbados. It was originally founded as a small Wesleyan Methodist Church in the late 1800s, but since has become a significant Pentecostal church in the country. The current Pastor of River Road is the Reverend Wilbur Brathwaite. It is one of the best churches in Barbados which you must visit.

History:

The River Road New Testament Church of God has a long and rich history. According to official sources, the church was initially established as a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in 1874 by a white Anglican priest, the Rev. Dr. Andrew Jacoby. The original site of the building is no longer in existence; however, the current site was purchased in 1892 by the Barbados Wesleyan Methodist Church. In 1915, the church changed its name to the River Road Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, which is the name it famously holds today. In 1949 the Barbados Wesleyan Methodist Church congregants amended their confidential deed to be a Pentecostal Holiness Church. The church then became known as The River Road New Testament Church of God. Over the years, the church has persisted in its commitment to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ together through worship and ministry services. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Barbados.
