Christ Church Parish Church In Barbados: History,Facts, & Services
Christ Church Parish Church is a historic Anglican church located on the southeast coast of Barbados. It is one of the oldest parish churches in the Caribbean and is a symbol of Barbados’ relationship with the Church of England. Built in 1628, the church boasts a unique combination of English Gothic and Caribbean colonial architecture. Its signature façades contain figures of prophets and angels carved in wood, while its interior is decorated with ornately painted and embellished reredos and a priceless, hand-carved mahogany font. The church offers a number of services, including weekly church services, weddings, and baptisms. It also hosts a variety of events such as a heritage festival that celebrates the island’s past and present, and concerts that showcase local and visiting performers. Additionally, the church has long served as a local training ground for Anglican clergy, having trained local ministers since 1769 and continues to do so today.
